Low views: find the real bottleneck
Last updated 13 Oct 2026
Low views have three different bottlenecks — few impressions, few clicks, or clicks then drop-off. Fixing the wrong one wastes effort.
Course · Stage 6: Publish, measure, multiply · Lesson 31/40 · 8 min
Why it matters
A new thumbnail can't save a video viewers leave at second 3; a better hook can't save a video nobody is shown.
Each bottleneck has its own fix.
Step by step
- Few impressions: topic too narrow, wrong keyword, or a soft policy issue — check topic and rules.
- Many impressions, few clicks: thumbnail / title not compelling → A/B test.
- Many clicks, early drop-off: the hook doesn't deliver the title's promise, slow start → check the retention graph, fix the first 3 seconds next time.
- Good retention but few go on watching: missing a next-video / series prompt.
- Log the bottleneck in your sheet; fix one thing at a time.
Common mistakes
- Deleting and re-uploading the same video.
- Changing everything at once.
- Blaming "suppression" without looking at numbers.
Ready-made prompt (ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini)
My video: impressions [number], click-through [%], average view duration [seconds / %], biggest drop at second [number]. Title: [..]. First 10 seconds say: [..]. Diagnose the main bottleneck (impressions / clicks / retention) and suggest one change for the next video.
Exercise
Diagnose your 2 weakest videos and log the bottleneck.
Done when: Each video has exactly one main bottleneck based on numbers and one concrete change.
