Use the real product photo as the AI's reference

Last updated 13 Oct 2026

When the AI draws a product on its own, you get a generic package that doesn't match the real thing. Give it the real photo.

Course · Stage 5: Consistent AI images & video · Lesson 20/40 · 9 min

Why it matters

Viewers buy what they see; a product that differs from the real one means returns and bad reviews.

A real best-seller also gives you verified facts for the voice-over.

Step by step

  1. Pick a product with real sales and save its main photo in high quality (clean background is best).
  2. Upload it to your image tool as an ingredient / reference image.
  3. Describe the product exactly as in the photo (color, printed text, lid, strap) and add: "copy the product in the reference photo exactly; ignore other items and promo text in it".
  4. Generate each scene with the reference attached; compare results with the real photo before making clips.
  5. In the video prompt, add "keep the product's shape, color and label exactly as in the start frame".

Common mistakes

Ready-made prompt (ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini)

The attached photo is the product [name]. Describe the real product briefly in English (shape, color, printed text, identifying details) for an image prompt, then write one sentence telling the AI to copy this product exactly and ignore everything else in the reference photo.

Exercise

Make two images of the same scene: one without the reference, one with it. Compare with the real product.

Done when: The referenced image keeps the real product's color, printed text and identifying details.
